Grafill Moving Image: Storyboard legend John Nevarez
Grafill Moving Image offers a unique and rare opportunity to learn about the art of storyboarding first hand from one of the industry’s greatest: John Nevarez is coming to Oslo!
Nevarez has worked on both story and design for television and feature films for over 29 years, at at some of the most established studios of all time: Disney, Warner Bros., Sony, Dreamworks, Pixar and Illumination.
If you’re a visual storyteller with a bit of experience, this is your chance to deep dive into storyboard techniques through a mixture of lecture and hands on assignments, guided by a master of the art. You’ll learn how to give your visuals an intimate and personal feel by utilizing composition and camera work, and how to best use beatboards to showcase visual storytelling. At the end of the course you’re guaranteed to have added a few more tools to your toolkit as a storyboard and visual artist!

Qvisten are opening their doors to take us on a technical journey from their beginnings to where they are today.
Founder Ove Heiborg, CTO Raymond Kreppene, and Lead 3D Artist Roy Kristoffersen will lead the evening, taking us from their very first purchase of 3D Studio Max, through their involvement in the development of the Arnold renderer, to their current pipeline built around USD, Solaris, and a fully integrated Houdini workflow.

Grafill Moving Image: Move it! with Sandra Anke Pilny-Lockertsen
Grafill Moving Image’s «Move it!» is a series of talks featuring different visual artists showcasing their work and giving useful insight into their field.
In this edition of «Move it!», storyboard and visual development artist Sandra Pilny-Lockertsen will take us through how she brings narratives to life for the first time through the storyboarding process. Based in Norway and working on both national and international productions with clients such as Fantefilm, Qvisten Animation, Funcom, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Sony Pictures Entertainment, she has worked in live action and the animation industry for over 25 years. With her experience, having contributed to a wide variety of tv-shows (including La Palma, Sonja og Harald and Exit 3) as well as cinema productions such as The Wave, North Sea, Teddybjørnens Jul, Den største forbrytelsen and animated features such as: Bukkene i Bruse på Badeland, Flåklypa - fra Paris til Pyramidene - you’re not going to want to miss this one!

Curious about Unreal Engine? Epic Games Mentor Trygve Bjellvåg (Head of Computer Arts at Kristiania University College) is hosting this summer’s Unreal Engine meetup at Mesh Youngstorget. With talks from Trygve himself, Tore Lervik - the creator of MeshBlend for Unreal, and audio director & composer Théo Nogueira, it’s a nice opportunity to learn more about Unreal and expand your network.

Isomorphic Visual Music: a Ph.D. in Animation
We are joining Grafill Moving Image to celebrate Norway’s first Ph.D. in animation.
The evening brings together a live concert featuring flutist Morten Bjørbæk Møller and Kristian Johannessen on synthesizer — with animation projected live onto oscilloscopes — alongside the official launch of the book Visual Music Design Fiction. An evening of art, music, and ideas — concluding four years of artistic research exploring the meeting point between music and moving image. A milestone in Norwegian animation history.
